During the 1930’s there was a rebirth of this kind of art, but is was cut short by the Civil War. Then in the 1950’s it was necessary to start all over again, that is when the LADAC group was founded in Las Palmas; where Manolo Millares had his artistic beginnings. He would later play an important part in the development of abstract Spanish art.

Another example of a great artist is the sculptor from Gran Canarias, Martín Chirino. In the case of Chirino, the allusion to the petroglyphics of aboriginal culture confers his spirals with the value of emblems of the archipelago’s identity.

Among the subjects reflected by many works of art, is the aboriginal culture, an infinite source of inspiration that can be seen in the Canary Museum (Museo Canario) of Las Palmas.

Other artists such as César Manrique successfully engage in abstract art, they have dwelled more in elements of shape, structure or colour than in living beings or objects. Summarising, plastic artists have proposed different models of interpreting the world around them in their never-ending struggle to defend their identity.
